Quick Tip: How To Get To Eastmarch For 'The Elder Scroll's Online's New Life Festival
This article is more than 2 years old.
You may experience some frustration if you're trying to participate in the Elder Scroll's Online's end-of-year New Life Festival and you haven't unlocked a wayshrine in Eastmarch. Getting to Breda to begin the event can be a pain in the butt. If you know someone who can teleport you to Eastmarch, you're good to go. If you don't, there's another way, but it's not obvious. Here's how to do it.
You may be tempted to take the overland route through the Rift from Davon's Watch in Stonefells. It's a long way, but it leads straight to Eastmarch. Unfortunately, the passage from Stonefells to the Rift leads through Fort Virik which has to be liberated before you can pass through. Opening up the fort is part of Stonefells' main quest line and you're in for a time-consuming fight if you want to go that way.
The steamy swamps of Shadowfen are one of the last places you'd consider when thinking about how to get to the snowy realm of Skyrim but Shadowfen is where your passage to Eastmarch lies. There's a Boatswain on the Alten Corimont docks named Muz-Muz who will take you there. She's easy to miss because she's fishing off the dock with her back to you. She'll ask if you want to go to Skyrim. Say yes and she'll take you to the city of Windhelm in Eastmarch. Breda is in a festival tent near a wayshrine just south of the city.
You'll be standing in a small boat when you first arrive in Windhelm. Be careful where you click. Clicking the boat takes you to Hew's Bane; clicking the dock gets you out of the boat.
There are good reasons to get involved in the New Life Festival besides doing the event quests themselves. Players who haven't gathered enough event tickets to get the Nascent Indrik mount have to do the Festival quests to get the tickets they need.
In addition, players who are new or are leveling an alt may want to at least finish the quest that starts the event because Breda awards you with her Bottomless Meade Mug. The Mug grants a two-hour 100% experience boost that can be used as many times as you wish until the New Life Festival ends on January 2. The boost is especially helpful because it stacks with any other experience boosts that are active. Players who want the experience boost are also the one's least likely to have unlocked a wayshrine in Eastmarch which makes locating the Festival in a place that's so hard to get to especially troublesome.
Getting to Eastmarch can be pointlessly frustrating. If it's any consolation, it's not as annoying as Red Dead Redemption 2 where you're penalized for not doing what mommy tells you and dressing appropriately for the move from the sweltering swamps to the frozen northlands. At least the trip to Eastmarch is a one-shot deal. With RDR2 you have to wear the right clothes every time you want to go out and play.
